Warakubune: Signs

The above photo is of the real-life Warakubune restaurant in San Francisco. The wooden grillwork above the doors and window was the inspiration for my dollhouse, though I’ve obviously been somewhat restricted by the design of the kit, which has separate areas above the central door and two windows. Because of that layout, I’ve had to rearrange the components of my signage a bit, while still trying to replicate them as best I could.

To laser-cut the pieces for the sign, it was a no-brainer to hire Blake Pietrolungo (TinyCraftsman on Etsy) again after he did such an amazing job with my sign for Osteria Al Vecchio Stallo. I started by creating black-and-white images of the signs from the above photo. My initial thought was for him to use 1mm PETG plastic like he did for my Al Vecchio Stallo project. However, Blake also sent me a batch cut from 1mm Plasticard (polystyrene sheets), and I ended up choosing the best pieces from each material to use. After painting the pieces, all that was left was to glue them in place.
