When I was doing research for my cookbook Flavors of Friuli: A Culinary Journey through Northeastern Italy, I rented an apartment in Trieste for three weeks. Much of that time was spent hanging out in the kitchen of Pasticceria Penso, learning all about the local pastries from my baker friends Antonello and Lorenzo.
For my dollhouse shop, I’m striving to recreate some of the elements of the building’s exterior. For example, the window frames and door will be stained a golden oak color. On the facade, I’ve stained the door frame to match the door and windows. The rest of the trim is a medium gray, inspired by the darker concrete sections of the actual building. I’ll be using a styrene concrete block veneer for the remaining areas.
The sides and back of the dollhouse won’t be visible, so I’ve just painted them a solid gray to match the concrete block veneer that will be going on the facade.
This is the acrylic ceiling panel. (Bent popsicle sticks are a great tool for keeping the pieces raised up while drying.)
