Osteria Al Vecchio Stallo: Flags

As guests enter the real-life Osteria Al Vecchio Stallo, they are greeted by a rainbow peace flag, “pace” meaning peace in Italian. I thought this would be a nice addition in the spot over the door. And even though I’m not aware of one in the actual restaurant, I thought the flag of Friuli-Venezia Giulia—golden eagle on a blue background—would be perfectly appropriate.

I found the images I wanted to use on Google, then used iron-on fabric transfer paper to transfer the images onto some scraps of an old, white t-shirt. I was hoping the fabric would drape a little more than it does, but the flags are really too small to allow any draping.

To hang the rainbow flag, I simply drilled a pair of holes and used the ends of jewelry headpins as nails. I plan to hang the Friulian flag in the space to the left of the door but am holding off until I’m ready to install all the wall decor in that area. (In the bottom photo, you can see the menus I finished yesterday.)
