Gelateria Bocelli: Wallpaper

Upon getting back on track after the holidays, my first project was to install the wallpaper in my gelateria. The interior walls of the real-life Gelateria Bocelli were plain white, but I wanted something a bit more elegant for my dollhouse. And given that I chose salmon pink for the exterior, I definitely wanted to steer clear of all the pinks typical of many miniature ice cream parlors. This aqua color really grabbed me, and I think it contrasts nicely with the pink stucco.

After the glue dried, I noticed a few dark smudges on the left back wall. One spot is clearly some glue from when I accidentally touched the front of the paper (it was my first sheet to install, and I was still figuring out how best to do it). But the other two areas are not on the outside of the paper. All I can guess is that maybe I applied too much glue in spots and the thick patches of glue are showing through (again, it was my first try, and I was still getting the hang of it). It’s not a huge deal, since these areas will be largely hidden by furniture and shelving.

Something else I would have done differently is to buy an extra sheet or two of wallpaper without the wainscoting. I had completely forgotten that this pattern was also available in plain stripes! I’m usually really good at planning, but this thought didn’t even occur to me until I was actually cutting up the extra paper to patchwork around the bay windows. The wainscoting was too tall to fit under the windows, and the striped portion was therefore too short to reach floor to ceiling. There are inch-wide horizontal seams to the sides of each window near the floor, as well as vertical seams on either side above the windows. Given that these walls won’t show terribly, I’m okay with how they came out. But it’s a good reminder to plan better next time!
