Gelateria Bocelli: Shelf

To make the shelf, I cut a section of 1/8″ x 1″ bass wood and covered it with the same marble wallpaper as the countertop and window benches. Like those other pieces, I then covered it with satin self-adhesive laminate paper.

For the brackets, I cut strips of 1/32″ x 1/8″ brass flat bar, similar to those in Pasticceria Penso. I bought some 12-gauge brass wire, planning to make a similar S-curve decoration. However, in my lack of experience with jewelry wire, I didn’t anticipate how much harder brass would be than the coated aluminum I used for the bakery’s brackets. This turned out to be one of those happy failures, as I ended up ordering some 16-gauge brass wire to use instead and redesigned the bracket to make it a bit more intricate. Using Google images for inspiration, I made one S-curve and added an additional spiral to the design. It looks so much better than what I had originally planned!

Here are the brackets after gluing the pieces together.

The wall in this shop is a little warped, a seemingly common problem with these kits. So instead of gluing the brackets to the shelf, I had to glue the shelf in first, and then attach the brackets.
