As I have previously described, the inspiration for the pink stucco walls of my gelateria dollhouse came from the place I associate most with Castiglioncello: Hotel Baia del Sorriso. However, in digging through some of my old photos, I came across this one taken in the center of town. The real-life Gelateria Bocelli was located in the building on the right, between the two red-and-white striped awnings. I was delighted to discover that the building was in fact pink stucco! The memory must have lodged itself in my subconscious, or perhaps it’s just a happy coincidence, given that many buildings in this region are painted shades of pink, apricot, and beige. Either way, I’m very pleased that this one element of my shop has unexpectedly turned out to be authentic!
