I’ve purchased an ice cream case and refrigerator for my gelateria, but since I couldn’t find a suitable counter, I decided to build my own. I started by building the frame out of 1/4″ bass wood.
I wanted the counter to be raised up with an inset baseboard. I built this base to be about 1/8″ narrower than the counter on all sides.
Here’s the base glued to the counter.
To add interest to the front, I glued on some 1″ square wainscot panels. (One of them is white because I was doing some test painting and had this square left over.)
I painted the counter white and used a satin varnish.
I made the countertop in the same way as the window benches: by gluing marble wallpaper to a piece of 1/8″ balsa wood and covering it with self-adhesive satin laminate.
Once the faux marble countertop was glued in place, my counter was all finished!
