Gastronomia Furlan: Wood Paneling & Trim

For the interior walls, I cut strips of 1/2″-wide balsa wood, stained them to match the rest of the trim, and glued them along the lower half of the walls. I also installed baseboards and some wainscot trim. One unforeseen consequence of these details is that my wall-length counter is now blocked in. I can still lift it in and out carefully, but once I install shelves on the wall above it, this will no longer be possible. I may eventually need to make the counter permanent and glue it to the wall.

I continued the wood paneling around the windows, but rather than adding wainscot trim below the windows, I simply aligned the paneling flush with the top edge.

Like my other corner shop, Gelateria Bocelli, the two window walls were missing the 3/8″ strip of crown molding along the interior top edge. It looks better if it’s consistent all the way around, so I cut and stained a strip of wood to match the two back walls.

While I was working on trim, I added sections of chair rail molding to the facades on either side of the bay windows.
