For these sesame seed rolls, I used the same color mix as the poppy seed kaiser rolls: Fimo vanilla, Fimo Soft sahara, Premo white, and translucent. This time I formed oblong shapes and made the cracks on the sides of the rolls. Again, I used a toothbrush, needle tool, and crumpled aluminum foil for texture and shaded them with soft pastels for a golden-brown baked effect. I baked the rolls before continuing.
For the sesame seeds, I used a color mix of Fimo vanilla, Premo white, and translucent, which I rolled into ropes as thin as possible. I gave the ropes a slight teardrop shape by pressing along one side. After baking, I cut them into tiny “seeds.” To attach the seeds, I brushed a little TLS (translucent liquid Sculpey) on top of the rolls and positioned the seeds one at a time.
After a second bake, I used a wet brush to apply a little bit of pale yellow and light brown soft pastels randomly to the sesame seeds. I think this adds to the realism, making the seeds less uniform in color. I then sealed the rolls with Helmar Crystal Kote Matte spray varnish. Here’s a closeup of one of the rolls.
All the breads are glued into the trays, so that they don’t spill as I’m placing them on the shelves.
