For these rye bread loaves, I used a color mix of Premo burnt umber, Fimo Soft sahara, and translucent. After using a toothbrush, needle tool, and crumpled aluminum foil for texture, I shaded the bottoms with soft pastels for a dark brown baked effect. I wanted to give the flour the appearance of having been baked as well, so I used both white and pale yellow soft pastels on the crust.
After baking, I used dark brown acrylic paint to give the cracked edges a slightly burnt look. I then sealed them with Helmar Crystal Kote Matte spray varnish, so that the pastels wouldn’t rub off. Here’s a closeup of one of the loaves.
Another tray added to the shelves!
