This particular build is going to be my most complex yet, so I’ll be posting my progress in stages. I’m starting with the counter that will sit along the back wall, behind the display cases. Similar to the other counters I’ve built for Gelateria Bocelli, Osteria Al Vecchio Stallo, and Gastronomia Furlan, my first step was to construct the framework. I used 1/4″ bass wood and covered this with a veneer of 1/2″-wide balsa wood, which I stained dark walnut.
Like my other counters, I built a base for the main framework to sit on, although in this case I’m making it 1/2″ high rather than 3/8″, in order to accommodate the faux granite tiles that will take the place of a baseboard around the entire shop.
