My original vision for this shop was to use the white wire table and chairs from my childhood sweet shop dollhouse. They don’t really scream Italian gelateria, but since I had them, I always felt compelled to place them in this shop. But as the interior was nearing completion, I kept getting this nagging feeling that they weren’t quite right. The final decision was made after giving them a coat of white spray paint, to hopefully cover up all the chips and scratches. The result wasn’t as clean and pristine as I was expecting, so I took that as a sign to go with my Plan B.
Instead of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor table and chairs, most gelaterie I’ve seen have a counter along the wall, at which you can stand or sit on stools. I made my counter the same way as the shelf: 1/8″ x 1″ bass wood, marble wallpaper, and satin laminate. For support, I made three brackets out of 1/8″ brass flat bar.
Here’s the counter after gluing to the wall.
I bought three white bar stools to fit under the counter.
