I wanted to hang a menu on the wall behind the gelato counter, so I created an actual price list (Listino Prezzi) with all the items I plan to display in the gelateria. In addition to the usual cones and cups and semifreddi, I included a couple of things that were especially significant to me: the tartufo (a chocolate-covered ball of ice cream made famous at Rome’s Tre Scalini) and the chocolate truffles from Castiglioncello’s Gelateria Dai Dai.
The 4pt font is tiny but still legible with my reading glasses! For the frame, I cut and glued together strips of picture frame molding, which I painted white and sealed with satin varnish. This molding is narrower than what I used for the other picture frames and therefore much trickier to glue at right angles. My first attempt ended up a parallelogram, so for my next try I used the corner of a scrap piece of balsa wood to line up the sections of frame at right angles. The glass is a thin piece of polycarbonate.
