I made the shingles for Gastronomia Furlan in the same style as those for Osteria Al Vecchio Stallo, except that I used 1/2″-wide balsa wood instead of 3/8″. I used the same “special walnut” stain as the rest of the trim but gave the shingles an additional coat to make them just slightly darker. Like the shingles on the osteria, I cut three tiers of wood (approximately 1-1/2″, 1″, and 1/2″ long) so that the layers would all lie flat.
