Sweet Shop: Ice Cream Parlor Tables

As a child I was given these two sets of ice cream parlor tables and chairs, as well as a set of ice cream sundaes, banana splits, and milkshakes. After this sweet shop had been mostly finished for a couple years, my dad built me the frame for another dollhouse: a two-story set of three shops, which I planned to make into a fabric store, a flower shop, and an ice cream parlor. I never made much headway on them, and when I moved out on my own, they were eventually thrown out. These tables remained in the sweet shop, though the fantasy of building an ice cream parlor has persisted. One of my current projects is an Italian gelateria, and my original vision was to relocate the white table and chairs there. However, as I made progress on the gelateria, I formed an entirely new vision that involves a counter and stools.

I made the two pastries on the red plates out of polymer clay. One is obviously a croissant. The other was just something “chocolate”-filled I made from some extra scraps.

The lemonade pitcher and glasses were one of my purchases at that Arizona miniature shop when I was 10. The crepe was another childhood gift. There are some empty plates on the white racks along the back wall. These were intended for some layer cakes I planned to make long ago but never got around to starting. You’ll notice plastic domes over those plates in the first photo above; I later removed them after realizing that they would be too small to actually cover a cake. (And after beginning to work on the sweets for my bakery shop, I’ve decided not to use the plastic plates either and will be using gold cardstock trays instead.)
